What is Truth?

Updated: Nov 11, 2019

Today, "fake news" is everywhere. If you are on one side of the political aisle, you are quick to believe any story that supports your side and visa versa. It has become perfectly acceptable to throw anything out there and see what sticks. Trial by popular opinion, but not based on any actual proof. The same misleading tactics are used by drug and supplement companies, ambulance-chasing lawyers, web-based companies who create "fake ratings", and so many other examples. Trust is all but gone and conspiracies abound!

The aforementioned can be directly tied to our ever shrinking faith in God. The one and only source of truth that Satan has done a spectacular job of destroying. He is the king of fake news! He tempts us to use lies and gossip for our own gain, whether it is to make ourselves look better or to get us something we want...and Satan tells us that this is perfectly okay. The ends justify the means. God teaches us that practicing these sinful actions leads to irreparable damage to innocent people and companies. The very thing that our Godly principle-based judicial system is supposed to guard against.

Another prime example of how trying to use man's laws to control sinful nature can never replace the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our hearts. God's desires for us come out of the deepest love that we cannot even fathom. For us to enjoy a life that is full of purpose and meaning, one that gives our creator all the glory and honor. To bring us back to where our word was as solid as the word of the Lord! God commands us to speak the truth, but do it out of love for one another. Using God's word rather than our own opinions when raising concern. Satan raises doubt that even the Bible contains "fake news"! But, didn't Jesus say:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” -John 11:25-26

So that is it. We can stop reading right there. We believe so we now have eternal life! Then why does the Bible contain so much more? But wait! Keep on reading...

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? -Romans 6:1-2

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. -1 John 5:3

For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. -Jude 1:4

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ -Matthew 7:21-23

You can trust God's word, but don't just sit in the pew and listen to the message. Do your research. Read the Bible, study it together with learned scholars who are versed in the original text and its meaning, and most importantly bring His word to life in your own heart.
