We are New Creations

By: Lee Larsen

My church sign calendar today says: "There is no future in spending the present worrying about the past."

But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 3:13-14
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
— 2 Corinthians 5:17

We, of course, should study history as it adds to the understanding of our heritage. But, more importantly, we must learn from our past mistakes. When we do this, we will find our sinful nature has caused a great deal of pain and hardship since man's first fall in the Garden of Eden. Unfortunately, we never seem to get it right. The result: we relive pain over and over again.

As Christians, we should use our history, combined with God’s Word and Spiritual guidance, to recognize the importance of living and sharing a Godly lifestyle with others. Our world will never be perfect, but there certainly could be a whole lot less pain and suffering! We can rejoice in the fact that our own sinful past can be forgotten, both by us and God, thanks to the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ.  He gives us new life no matter what we have done in our past. If we totally commit our lives to Him, and let His Holy Spirit fill us up and guide us through life, He promises never to leave our side. The promise of life eternal with the Father in Heaven is ours.

Our salvation is a free gift, given to each of us out of the deepest love there could ever be - God's love for His most treasured creation. We must seek Him and choose to accept His gift as it would be meaningless if God forced us to love and obey Him.

To help you see and feel this love He has for you and share that priceless gift with others in your community, give Christian Kindness a try. Acts 1:8 Ministry's free Christian Kindness Program teaches Christians how to share the love of Christ with others in a fun, easy, and effective way. When you do or give something simple and practical to people in your community, you provide them a taste of what God's love is all about - freely given and cannot be bought or earned.
