Growth in God

By: Jeff Van Beaver

We can think of growth in many ways.  We may grow in our professional life by excelling at the workplace through promotions and raises.  We may grow in our family life by being a good spouse or parent.  We may grow in our social life by having more friends or more social gatherings.  The list can go on and on.  It is good to have the balance of growth in many areas.

I want to encourage you to focus on this next area of growth.  It is simply growth in God.  You may ask yourself how do I grow in this area?  Scripture tells us in Colossians 1:10- “And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.”  It is this growing in the knowledge of God that is crucial.  Growing in God comes by daily reading of the Bible.  Growing in God comes by being built up by Christ centered Bible believing Christians.  Growing in God comes by regularly worshipping with fellow believers at a Church.  Growing in God comes by living our faith in the workplace, and with our family and friends.

As we grow in our walk with the Lord, we are compelled to share our faith with others. We are all gifted in different ways, and God will open the door for you to share your faith in your special way.

I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.
— Philemon 1:6

It could be through listening, helping someone in need, by serving others as Christ did, or being bold with your witness for Christ.  Growth in God leads to moving his Kingdom forward.  An easy way to reach others with the Gospel is to care for them.  This will open the door for you to share your faith with others in a non threatening way.  You can start by doing acts of Christian Kindness to your own family, and then friends.  As you feel more comfortable in this lifestyle (because it needs to be a way of life) you will continue to do acts of Christian Kindness naturally to your neighbors, co-workers and strangers. First, start with your family and it will become contagious for you in your everyday life.  Be an impact for this community and beyond, for the power of God is in you.
